The Studio Gift

Finally-- at long last-- some peace and quiet.
Do you know what he gave me?
Better than a library, nearly.
A place of my own-- he fixed up a room entirely for me! A studio!
He wants me to stay at home and work just on writing-- which I'll gladly do!
He's finally making enough money so that I don't need to work, but hopefully some of my stories will sell. Oh god finally. I've always wanted a place like this.
For weeks he wouldn't let me go near the room, saying he was "working on it" and it was going to "be a surprise".
I was DYING to know what it was
And it's perfect.
I love love love love love it.

I hated to shatter the glassy water with my pail
But lightly I dipped it in.

When in the wetted glass I saw
A sea-nymph

I could not take my eyes from her

Her song continued,
Soft and noxious.
A little way aslant the bank
She came upon a tree.
A willow, weeping
As the maid.
She had forgotten my company

One branch on which she sat
Was hanging over the stream.
Bending to embrace the water,
She looked into the brook.
As she did so,
Flowers fell:

The trusted tree proved treacherous
